About Bengal International Film Festival

The land of Bengal nurtured immense talent for decades and created great milestones in Bharatiya cinema to place our beloved nation on the global map of World Cinema. Bharatiya Film started its journey with Hiralal Sen’s Bioscope Company. Years later, eminent film directors like Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, Buddhadeb Dasgupta, and Ritwik Ghatak presented their work at international film festivals like Cannes, Venice & Berlin. The 1956 Cannes Film Festival featured Satyajit Ray’s famous ‘Pather Pachal’i; years later, he received the Lifetime Oscar Award. A less-known fact is that the first Deputy Prime Minister of Bharat, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, was in tears after seeing the creative excellence of Satyajit Ray in a single screening organised exclusively after the film’s global acclamation at the Cannes Film Festival. He uttered simply: “Work must go on and never be stopped due to lack of support”.

Bengal feels proud of these towering personalities, and today, we feel it’s our duty to take it forward with new works and showcase our inherent culture and heritage to the world.

OBJECTIVE

To commemorate the journey of Bengal & Indian Cinema as a whole, with a humble beginning in 2023, we are eagerly looking forward to organizing the 2nd Bengal International Film Festival 2024 to highlight the present-day creation of Bengal Cinema and give a platform to the contemporary film fraternity from around Bharat and the world.
